CP Projects Space at the School of Visual Arts is pleased to present Yours, Contemplating Contemporary Companionship, curated by MA Curatorial Practice student Abbas A Malakar. What is companionship? Who is a companion? The exhibition deals with social obligation and reciprocal functionality in companionship. With an ever-increasing number of companionship models, we must ask ourselves how obligations manifest, linger, and impact relationships–even when they do not make themselves visible.
Each artist in the exhibition comes with their perspective of a certain form of companionship. This global, cross-generational inquiry explores and challenges every aspect within its reach: from the performativity of companionship, and the goals and services beyond the self, to submission and its many forms.
The ensuing dialogue will hopefully enrich our understanding of our companions and ourselves concerning them–in their many forms–in this contemporary realm of ever-changing interpersonal and social boundaries. We invite you to get lost with us and question every form of companionship you have experienced. Bring your/the/a companion(s).
